IF  HE

If he would be so beautiful
As to let me be his own
If he would be so tender
As to nurse the love that’s grown

If he would be so kindly
As to take me in his stride
If he would be so noble and brave
As to proudly wear me at his side

If he would be so patient
As to listen to my pain
If he would be so honest
As to tell me all the same.

But if he would be so beautiful
He would be good and he’d be true
And if he would be so tender
He’d do what a man should do

He would turn me far away
If he would be so noble and brave
He would not let me have his sway

If he would be so patient
To dispel what I covet my own
If he would be so honest
He would keep the first love he’s known.

X, who tried to get into the relationship of a couple wrote this to me and want me to put it right here, so that Y could read it right here. I just do it coz I feel the poem is nice. I have no comment on X's motive. X said:
"There is something that makes a person feel so human reading a love letter, like you're never ever alone as long as there's love. I have a lump in my throat. Here's a poem I wrote to my best friend's boyfriend. I forced myself to give my love for him up!". Received from [email protected] 1998.
